On April 15-17, Chopticon FBLA traveled to Hagerstown, MD to participate in the annual State Leadership Conference. Chopticon FBLA competed in 29 events, and members performed very well en route to earning Chopticon the title of Conference Champion. Awards received in competitive events are listed below.

The 1999 NLC was held in Chicago, IL from June 29 to July 2. Chopticon received the Hollis & Kitty Guy Award for qualifying as a Gold Seal Chapter during an Eastern Region session. Six members competed in seven events. Although no one placed in the top ten, it is an honor simply to compete at the national level. Below are the competitors and their events.

The Region IV Competitive Events were held at Patuxent High School on February 17. Chopticon exhibited the largest delegation, filling all available slots. Our efforts proved successful as we walked away with 23 competitors moving on to state competition. Below are members who placed in the top three.

Members are recognized outside of the competitive events program as well. Below are some more of the many ways members are recognized for their success.

FBLA articles are frequently published in our county newspaper, The Enterprise, as well as our school publications. The articles recognize members for their achievements in projects, conferences, and ceremonies among other things.
John Williams was awarded a $50 stipend for teaching a workshop, "Scrapbook: An Event for All Chapters," at this year's Fall State Leadership Conference.
A letter was received from Principal John Ryan thanking us for our assistance in escorting Maryland's Governor Parris Glendening during his visit to Chopticon.
State Senator Roy Dyson sent a letter thanking us for his invitation to our annual Awards Banquet.
St. Mary's County Social Services sent us a letter recognizing our enormous contribution to the St. Mary's County community through our Thanksgiving canned food drive.
