The 1999 State Leadership Conference was held at the Ramada Inn located in Hagerstown, MD from April 15 to April 17. Members enjoyed all aspects of the conference immensely. Mr. Lou Kaminski, FBLA State Chairman, coordinated the conference and spoke at the opening session. Members participated in several workshops such as "Reality 101" and "Selling Your Chapter." Dances were held on both nights, and members also enjoyed the swimming pool. The conference culminated with the awards ceremony where Chopticon dominated in becoming Conference Champion. The 1999 National Leadership Conference took place in Chicago, IL at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. Seven members and two advisers were privileged in being exposed to an array of events, opportunities, and chapter resources. The conference officially began with the opening general session where members were introduced to national officers and treated to the tales of guest speaker Sam Glenn. While in Chicago, members visited Navy Pier, the Sears Tower, and the Taste of Chicago among other attractions. Besides competing in seven events, members attended helpful workshops such as "The Tennis Ball" and "Image is Everything." Members also supported the March of Dimes by participating in the Mini-Walk America. The conference concluded with the Awards of Excellence Program where event winners and new national officers were announced. Click on the image above for awards received at the conference.
The Fall State Leadership Conference was once again held at the Ramada Inn in Hagerstown, MD. Many workshops were offered by the state officers. Topics included the duties and responsibilities of each office and various communication skills. Chopticon Co-President John Williams was honored to teach his own workshop, "Scrapbook: An Event For All Chapters," at state chairman Lou Kaminski's request. National Treasurer Mark Dundon was a guest at the conference, speaking at the sessions and conducting a workshop. Attendees were treated to a luncheon at the conclusion of the conference.
This year's National Fall Leadership Conference in Greensboro, NC hosted both the Eastern and Southern regions. Attendees were treated to a variety of workshops such as "Interviewing Skills," "Networking: Working the Crowd," and "Making Your Annual Business Report a Winner." Multimedia presentations and messages from national officers were featured during the opening and closing sessions. Guest speaker Norm Hull delivered an inspirational speech about the trials of life. In addition, exhibits of various fundraisers and colleges were perused. Members also participated in two dances. The conference was an excellent experience that left members with personal and chapter management skills.
